Peloponnesos
|
The Peloponnesos is the largest peninsula in the south of Greece. It is connected to the main land by a new bridge
(Rio Antirio) near Patras and by a road over the Corinth Canal. The area is about 22,000 km2 with a population of
650,000 inhabitants.
The Peloponnesos is at the same latitude as the south of Spain and the Canary Islands. It has a Mediterranean
climate that for most of the time remains stable and warm. In the winter the central mountainous regions offer good
sporting facilities.
Kyparissia from the air |
Patras to the north of the Peloponnesos is two hours drive from Kyparissia. It is the place for all arrivals and
departures by ferry boat from Greece to Italy and other countries. If you prefer to drive your own car to Greece this
will make your journey shorter and more comfortable. The disance from e.g. Holland is approximately 3000 kms.
Athens provides direct flights to all destinations in the world whilst from Kalamata and Araxos a small airport near
Patras, you can reach most destinations in Europe by charter flight. There are good bus links to the centre of
Kyparissia and car rental services are provided at all airports and in Kyparissia (see our Customer Abroad Services
Programme).
The Peloponnesos is a favourite holiday place for the Greek people and this is now quickly being discovered by other
Europeans. Here you can live a relaxed life and make friends with the local population. The Greek language takes
patience to learn, however everybody under 40 years of age will speak some English. Learning Greek is to be
expected and the best way to do this is to enjoy the Greek life style.
